Rising Damp Checklist
the following are typical symptoms of rising damp:
- fungal decay in skirtings or other timbers
- peeling wall coverings and paintwork
- efflorescence (salt deposits)
- mould growth, staining
- damp/wet patches, water droplets, water runs

RISING DAMP is not the commonest cause of dampness in buildings, but older buildings are likely to be affected by rising damp to some degree.
It is defined as the vertical flow of ground water up through a permeable wall structure, the porous masonry acting like a 'wick'.
Correct diagnosis and treatment will prevent further damp and aid the control of heat loss and condensation and prevent further spoiling of interior joinery and decorations.
